It's amazing how time can move so slowly in a moment, yet when we look back at those moments collectively, they seem to have disappeared together in a flash. It was August 2000 when I first attended a ROC launch. I arrived at the lakebed with my freshly assembled and half-painted PML Miranda, intent on gaining a Level 1 cert with my first HPR flight.. I knew only what I had been able to read online and had guessed at the rest. Fortunately for me, PML makes a very good kit and there is a large amount of very good advice on the web. Even more fortunately, I had happened onto what is in my opinion, the best club in the world; ROC. Rick O'Neil and Greg Lawson were more patient with me and my endless questions and worrying than I would have ever dared ask them to be. I wrote my check to Tripoli, bought my motor from Ken Finwall ($20 for an H124J - how things change), the flight was a success and for the moment the bug had bitten. |
